The final function from libsvn_client that you absolutely need for a minimalist client application is svn_client_commit3(), and honestly, there isn t a whole lot to say about it. Take a moment to examine the function prototype in Listing 8-26 and you ll see why. Listing 8-26. The svn_client_commit3() Prototype svn_error_t * svn_client_commit3 (svn_client_commit_info_t **commit_info, const apr_array_header_t *targets, svn_boolean_t recursive, svn_boolean_t keep_locks, svn_client_ctx_t *ctx, apr_pool_t *pool); As you can see, this prototype uses the same conventions as the rest of the libsvn_client functions that can commit a change to the repository. The targets argument is an array of const char * paths to working copy files or directories that should be committed. The recurse argument is a flag to indicate whether the commit should recurse into subdirectories or whether only the first level of items should be committed. We will unlock paths in the repository during the commit unless the keep_locks argument is TRUE. ctx->notify_func2 and ctx->notify_baton2 will be used to notify the caller of each item committed, and ctx->cancel_func and ctx->cancel_baton will be called occasionally to determine whether the operation should continue. As usual, ctx->log_msg_func2 and ctx->log_msg_baton2 are used to obtain a log message for the commit, and *commit_info is filled in with the result of the commit once it completes.

Here, you will see a TableLayout containing five rows, each demonstrating a slightly different flavor of EditText: The first row does not have any attributes at all on the EditText, meaning you get a plain text-entry field. The second row has android:inputType = "text|textEmailAddress", meaning it is text entry, but specifically seeks an e-mail address. The third row allows for signed decimal numeric input, via android:inputType = "number|numberSigned|numberDecimal".

If you compare the code for the previous example and this one, you ll see they re similar. In order to connect to the MySQL database, you need to add a new connection string to Web.config. We have by no means covered all the major functions within libsvn_client. In fact, large groups of functions have been omitted, such as the ones associated with properties, among others. Nonetheless, we have covered enough of the details that you should be able to use the inline documentation in the header files to implement that additional functionality in your own program, and at the very least you can always refer to Subversion s own code that makes use of these functions. In general, Subversion s APIs are consistent enough that you shouldn t have trouble figuring out how to use them on your own.

You create a new connection string with the name OdbcConnectionString and tell it that you re using the MySQL ODBC driver As you ll recall from 3, you can use this driver by specifying the server, database, uid, and pwd that you want to use to connect to the database First, you include the correct namespaces in the page You again use SystemData to allow access to the base data objects, but instead of the SystemDataSqlClient namespace, you use the SystemDataOdbc namespace, like so: <%@ Import Namespace="SystemData" %> <%@ Import Namespace="SystemDataOdbc" %> The connection string is retrieved from Webconfig in the same way as the previous example, except that you re retrieving the OdbcConnectionString setting rather than the SqlConnectionString.

The fourth row is set up to allow for data entry of a date (android:inputType = "date"). The last row allows for multiline input with autocorrection of probable spelling errors (android:inputType = "text|textMultiLine|textAutoCorrect"). The class and modifiers tailor the keyboard. So, a plain text-entry field results in a plain soft keyboard, as shown in Figure 10 2.

There are times when the interface presented by libsvn_client is simply too high-level for what you re trying to do. Perhaps you want to write a program that makes some kind of change to a repository that just isn t possible with the existing libsvn_client functions. Or maybe you want access to information at a finer granularity than libsvn_client gives you. In this case, when you want to communicate with the repository but don t want to go through libsvn_client, the logical choice is to use libsvn_ra directly.
